David Matteson
Cinematographer / Producer / Sound Designer
Born and raised in Phoenix
Arizona, David has been working with the arts
and film since he was a kid. His parents bought
him his first video camera when he was 8 years
old and he quickly began filming everything
in sight. 12 years later David met fellow filmmaker
Hayden Blades and the duo produced their first
short film together titled Good Things. David,
still in love with the camera, continued to
film whenever possible. Several projects followed,
and in 2006 they released their film "The
Heaviness of Here", which won the award
for Best Cinematography.
David and Hayden joined the crew of Stephen
Krystek's "Not Quite Dead"
as camera operators. Steve, Hayden, and David
found they worked so well together and had such
a great time on their first film that they decided
to form SyntheticHuman Pictures in 2006. The
crew filmed "Tip Jar" in 2007 on
a skeleton crew, which was followed by "Drain"
later that year. As the films kept building
so did the team. The crew won Best Picture for
Drain in 2008. With nearly a dozen films behind
them, and nationwide theatrical screenings,
David continues to be the eye behind the lens
for SyntheticHuman.
David's filmmaking interests lie behind
the camera, but he works as a writer, co-director,
sound engineer, music composer, and several
other post-production positions. He also is
active in Arizona's local arts and music
scene, working with Sonik, and ProVoke magazines,
as well as working as a graphic and multimedia
designer.
