Charlie Steak
Writer / Director / Actor
Charlie played Gene in SyntheticHuman’s
Drain, wrote and directed SyntheticHuman
Pictures’ short film I’m Voting
Republican, and was the AD/whip for Common
Ground.
His directing credits include The Rivals,
Twelfth Night, An End, a Middle,
and a Beginning - Stories from Anton Chekhov,
and The Curse of the Starving Class.
Charlie appeared in the world premiere of The
Gratitude of Wasps at North Carolina’s
DeepDish Theatre, and at PlayMakers Repertory
Theater in Cyrano de Bergerac, Caesar and
Cleopatra, and Richard II. On
the west coast, Charlie has appeared at South
Coast Repertory, P.C.P.A., The Odyssey, and
L.A. Stage Company (Cloud Nine –
L.A. Drama Critics’ Circle Award), and
has appeared in television and film, including
the movie version of Stephen King’s
Christine and Sean von Lembke’s Alice.
He holds an MFA from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and has taught for Duke
University’s Talent Identification Program.
For the 07-08 season he acted and taught improv
with Arizona’s Essential Theatre Company,
and appeared in a new play in Phoenix. In case
you are still not bored, he’s written
several original scripts, a short play, The
Chekhov Class, and a couple of adaptations.
He loves SyntheticHuman. “We are not interested
in the possibilities of defeat.”
